A Hunger For God

One of the reasons food has this amazing power is that it is so basic to our existence. Why is this? I mean, why did God create bread and design human beings to need it for life? He could have created life that has no need of food. He is God. He could have done it any way he pleased. Why bread? And why hunger and thirst? My answer is very simple: He created bread so that we would have some idea of what the Son of God is like when he says, “I am the bread of life” (John 6:35). And he created the rhythm of thirst and satisfaction so that we would have some idea of what faith in Christ is like when Jesus said, “He who believes in me shall never thirst” (John 6:35). God did not have to create beings who need food and water and who have capacities for pleasant tastes.

I’m running…running for my dear life…away from the pythonic grip of death desperately seeking to embrace me. The wind relays his message to me “I can run but not hide”. I hear his taunting high pitched shrieks echo in the dark and the once lively forest in a blink of an eye keeps mum. Fear, his long time ally in the extermination business, swoops down on me, sending goose bumps racing over my body. Prayer Storm

A storm of prayer releases a storm of power. A prayer storm, to pull out some more dictionary definitions of storm, does not have to be compared only with weather terminology. You can have other kinds of storms: a storm of anger or protest; or a storm of the opposite emotion, such as a storm of laughter; a storm or bombardment of objects, a storm or torrent of communications, even a stormwindow (we could play with that one!). When we use the word storm as a verb, we talk about military-type storming of a fortified location, often suddenly and with great force, in order to attack and capture it. We speak of storming out of a room with violent anger, pushing forward like a thunderhead driven before the wind.
